Following in the footsteps of my maternal grandmother, I have served as organist and choir director in a variety of churches since age 15 and as the chapel organist at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. I have been the Music Director at PSUMC since 1988. [See Music Ministry page for more.]
I believe it is our birthright to sing, whether our voices are trained or squeaky, soaring or froggy. Embracing a wide range of musical expressions, I nurture the involvement of many musicians in our PSUMC community, both singers and instrumentalists.
One of my greatest joys is blogging at “Ask Her About Hymn(s)” (http:AskHerAboutHymn.com), where I indulge my passion for hymn stories and meditations.
As a student of hymnody and sacred music history, I wrote about hymns as a columnist for The Progressive Christian magazine, 2007-2011. I am a member of the Hymn Society of the United States and Canada as well as the American Guild of Organists, NYC chapter.
I am also an activist and freelance writer. For information on her books see www.PamMcAllisterAuthor.com or check out my blog about nonviolent activism at http://activistswithattitude.com. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter (@ActivistPam).
