PSUMC Capital Campaign
The life of our beloved church extends to the physical space we share. As a church community, we are called to tend to these sacred spaces to ensure that they will be there for future generations, strengthening our community with places for worship, fellowship and contemplation.
Past capital campaigns helped fund improvements to the church garden.
The PSUMC 2007 Capital Campaign, “Many Gifts, One Spirit,” is the current fundraising program designed to continue needed improvements to our physical facilities. This three-year campaign depends on the all of us as PSUMC members to pledge and make contributions in order to achieve its goals: a state-of-the-art commercial-quality kitchen, and a long-postponed restoration of the church’s exterior. Successful earlier capital campaigns have allowed us to: rewire and enhance the church’s electrical system; install a fire alarm and security system; replace two ancient boilers; renovate the garden; and replace the fence. During the last capital campaign, we also hired a professional kitchen consultant who drew up complete architectural and engineering plans for a new kitchen.
Kitchen
Everyone at PSUMC agrees that we need to replace the 1962-era kitchen with a functional, modern facility. Our new kitchen will allow the efficient preparation of professional quality full-scale meals or lighter refreshments for the congregation, guests and community members. It will, for the first time, give us the ability to offer catering facilities for special events. It will greatly enhance our potential for fellowship, fundraising, community outreach and mission work.
Exterior Restoration
In 2006 the Trustees hired a building conservator and engineering team to conduct a thorough survey of the church build and recommend a restoration plan. The resulting four-volume document includes a master plan for a multi-phased program. The 2007 Capital Campaign raises money for the first steps and highest priorities in this program: restoring the degraded coping stones that line the sanctuary roof and stabilizing the brick masonry at the front of the church and in the South Transept.
