With arts fairs, retreats, celebrations, and a well-known annual book sale, PSUMC is a church community that likes a good time.
Annual Book Sale
Our Book Sale has become PSUMC’s most successful and perhaps best-loved annual fundraiser. Launched in 1994, this event consistently attracts hundreds of book lovers from all over Brooklyn and beyond. We are proud that we can raise significant amounts of money for the church simply by selling donated books at extremely low prices! It’s a win-win situation for everyone. Our 2008 sale is expanding to a two-day event: Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24. More about Annual Book Sale
Hollyberry Fair
The Hollyberry Fair is a large crafts fair featuring artisans of every sort, baked goods and a soup luncheon sponsored by the church. The array of goods and vendors is truly outstanding and each year attracts large crowds looking for unique and affordable holiday gifts. This year's holiday fair takes place November 18.
Greening of the Sanctuary
Every year in late November, the church community gathers for an informal dinner and then sets about decorating the church sanctuary for Christmas. It's always a great evening of intergenerational fun and the sanctuary looks beautiful for weeks afterward. This year's event takes place on Dec. 1.
Blessing of the Animals
On the second Sunday of October each year (close to the feast of St. Francis) all pets and their human friends are invited to this service which focuses on God's gift of animals, the natural world, and our responsibilities as stewards of God's creation. Animal companions will receive a special blessing. Weather permitting, the service is held in our lovely garden.
Retreats
The church sponsors a Women's Retreat, Men's Retreat, Youth Group Retreat and All-Church Retreat each year. They Provide a great opportunity to have fun, explore spirituality and strengthen church community bonds in a beautiful setting. The Women's Retreat takes place in Spring. The All-Church Retreat takes place in October. The schedules for the Men's and Youth Group Retreats vary.
