PSUMC To Host Viewing of "Almost Home," with discussion by Director/Producer Brad Lichtenstein
For those of you caring for aging parents and loved ones, this is a must see. Real stories of aging and care givingĀ – frightening, tender, funny, surprising and honest. The documentary film "Almost Home," which aired nationally on PBS, is an inspirational story of transformation and change that challenges the way we think of aging and long-term care. The film follows the daily lives of residents and staff at St. John’s on the Lake, a long term care community in Wisconsin, and tells the intimate stories of two couples, one bonded by their struggle with Alzheimer’s and another divided by the challenges of Parkinson’s.
Almost Home takes an honest look at the struggles of adult children torn between caring for their parents and managing their own affairs, nursing aides doing crucial work for poverty wages and a visionary nursing home director seeking to tear down the traditional walls of an antiquated institution and create a place to call home.
Hosted by Park Slope United Methodist Church, the screening of the film will be accompanied by an introduction and Q&A from the film’s director/producer, Brad Lichtenstein, and will be followed by break-out discussion groups on care giving: the challenges of managing work and family, end-of-life care planning and organizational culture change.
Viewing and Discussion will be Saturday, March 13 from 7:00-10:00 pm.
